Un-Hapi

As a precursor, I don't intend for this blog to have very many, if any, negative reviews.

An impromptu day trip to Laguna Beach with a good friend should be filled with wonderful memories, and for the most part, it was. However, by the end of the day, we were exhausted, from having to look for a lost phone (you know how that goes) and needed a little pick me up. Walking dejectedly past the beach themed store fronts that line the streets near the coast, we come across a sushi shop. Hapi Sushi

We walk in and look around for a waiter, or someone to seat us while admiring the decor of the petite sushi bar, and soon find ourselves walking out  in a worse mood than before. I won't get into the ugly details, but basically, the chef was terribly rude and in my opinion had bad business acumen. After my friend and I tried to order one order of sushi to share. He told us, quite plainly, to leave his restaurant, and come back when we were hungrier. So we left. Myself very much confused. My colleague very much peeved.

I'm still craving a california roll, but not from Hapi Sushi, or should I say Un-Hapi...

Caramel and Carne Asada

.

If ever you find yourself driving up to Big Bear Lake, CA on a Tuesday or Thursday, I strongly advise you to take the turn off to Blue Jay and stop at Archurro's. Enjoy a cool soda with friends while the smell of your pan seared Carne Asada wafts from the kitchen, and soon from your own plate as you prepare to devour delicous taco after taco without any monetary guilt at $1.50 a pop.

But do save room! Nestled in the back of this cozy restaurant is a candy store. With hand crafted carmel apples and fudge! Usually I shy away from any type of potentially messy food substances, but after sampling my friends apple, I had to purchase my own. The  sour and crunch of the crisp granny smith apple is coated in perfect chewy non-stick carmel...that's right folks- carmel that does not stick to your teeth! How they do it, I don't know. The perfect balance of sour and sweet, crisp and chewy...white chocolate chips and sprinkles... need I say more.
